A girl was injured after a vehicle driven by a person collided with her while she was crossing a pedestrian crossing on her bicycle, according to Brigadier Jumaa bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police. He indicated that she was transferred to the hospital to receive treatment.

In detail, the General Command of Dubai Police called on drivers to reduce speed and strictly give pedestrians full priority when crossing roads. It emphasized that pedestrian safety is a strategic priority, and that granting pedestrians the right of way is not only linked to the presence of designated crossings , but also requires constant attention to them on various internal and residential roads.

Brigadier Jumaa bin Suwaidan stressed the importance of drivers reducing speed and paying attention to pedestrian movement, especially near crossings, industrial areas, and residential neighborhoods. He noted that giving pedestrians priority directly contributes to enhancing road safety and reducing accidents.

He explained that violating the rule of not giving pedestrians priority at designated crossings, under Article (69), results in a fine of AED 500 in addition to six traffic points, due to the direct danger this violation poses to lives.

This appeal came following a collision accident that occurred on one of the internal roads in Al Yalayis First area (“Mira Complex”), between a vehicle and a bicycle, as a result of the driver’s failure to give priority during crossing. The accident resulted in a girl suffering serious injuries and she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Bin Suwaidan added that traffic accident investigation experts from the Traffic Accidents Department went to the scene to collect evidence and determine the exact causes of the accident, while traffic patrols worked to regulate traffic, secure the site, and facilitate the arrival of rescue and ambulance teams.
