The Dubai Traffic Court fined an Asian driver AED 7,000 and suspended his driving license for three months after convicting him of causing a traffic accident on Al Wasl Street by running a red light, which resulted in injuring a man and damaging two vehicles.
The incident occurred on Al Wasl Street when the defendant was driving a private vehicle and crossed the intersection despite the red traffic light, as confirmed by traffic investigations and inspection.
According to the case documents, running the red light caused his vehicle to collide with another car, injuring its Asian driver with varying degrees of bodily harm, in addition to material damage to both vehicles. The technical inspection of the accident confirmed that the fault lay entirely with the defendant due to negligent driving, lack of attention, and failure to comply with the traffic signal. The defendant admitted to committing the offense during the investigation and before the court.
The court stated in its ruling that running a red light is one of the most dangerous traffic violations, given the potential for sudden and severe accidents at intersections, especially on busy roads with high traffic density.
The court also noted that the defendant’s admission aligned with the findings of the inspection and the official report, reinforcing the court’s conviction of the charges against him, both regarding causing bodily injury and damaging others’ property.
Furthermore, the court indicated that all offenses arose from a single act and connected criminal activity, necessitating the application of the penalty for the more severe crime, in accordance with the provisions on concurrence in the Penal Code. The court concluded by fining the defendant AED 7,000 and suspending his driving license for three months, effective from the date of the ruling.
